The Causes Of Hard Disk Failure

Posted by: Saiful  :  Category: Hardware

It’s always difficult having to deal with a failed drive, and knowing the causes of hard disk failure may help you avoid one. If you don’t know what may be bringing about the ticking noises that you get from your hard drive, chances are you will be rushing to backup your data when it starts up again. And while its always a good idea to take advantages of the services of the best online backup systems, an online “hard drive” is no replacement for a real one. Dealing with a dying hard drive can be stressful especially when you have a lot of files in it, so knowing the causes of one and how to prevent it can help you keep your data safe from potential loss.

One of the most common causes of a hard drive failure is physical trauma. Hard drives are very delicate. Each piece inside is built with a micron of space in between them, making it easily damaged or scratched. For instance, computers under your desks can be easily bumped or kicked. Placing your hard drives right next to your loud subwoofers can cause vibrations. Often times, poor hard drives get smacked by frustrated users. It is very important that you keep your computer in a safe place away from physical abuses.

Another common cause of hard drive disk failure is overheating. While yes, the current computers that we have are capable of doing a wide range of incredible things, they also require a large amount of heat in exchange. Some units can easily cool down by turning down their settings or turning up your air conditioners or fans; however, some layout problems inside your computer can cause further problems. A lot of pre-built computers are laid out fine but then if you want to save money and assemble a unit on your own, there are a few important things to keep in mind. First, you should install fans to ensure a good airflow within your computer. Installing exhaust fans let out hot air and force cool air to the bottom. Heat does not only pose risks to your hard drive but also to the other parts of your computer.

One easily prevented problem is an electrical surge. Getting a surge protector for all of your computer’s plugs is imperative. It cannot be stressed enough that you should never plug your computer directly into the wall. Even a small electrical surge can cause a computer to short out entirely. Not only could it kill the hard drive, but every other component is at risk. And make sure that your surge protector is tough enough to protect against a big surge. If it can’t protect your computer adequately, it serves no purpose.

There are numerous reasons that a hard drive can fail. These are just three of those reasons, but they are among the most common. If you take care of your drive, you shouldn’t have to worry about that strange noise that you get when your hard drive plays its death knell. By listening to your hard drive and taking care of it properly, you can extend its life indefinitely.

Simple Tips For Extending The Life Of Your Computer

Posted by: Saiful  :  Category: General

Last month I wrote about Spring cleaning for your PC. Since computers are something most people use yet neglect to maintain properly, I figured I’d continue down that track with some more of what I consider the basics.

This is very important for restaurant owners and other retail business owners out there. whether you are using the latest restaurant POS equipment or not, computer problems can still greatly affect your business’ performance. So better make sure you follow these few simple tips.

1. Computers Needs Regular Maintenance. As you change the oil of your car, your computer also needs regular maintenance to keep it running smoothly and extend the usable life. Tools like disk cleanup, defragmentation, and updating your virus protection files are necessary to keep your machine running at its’ best and to prevent small problems before they become really big problems.

2. An Anti-virus Software is A Must. As what I’ve been pointing out on my past articles, the most important piece of software you should have is an anti-virus program. It shouldn’t be news to you that you can get a virus attack from the internet or a not-so-friendly email. Anti-virus software will notify you before you open the infected file and release the virus to do damage. One key point to remember is anti-virus software will not repair damage a virus has already done. The anti-virus software also needs to be updated once or twice a month so it’s using the latest protection against sneaky viruses that may infect and damage your system.

3. Always Do A Backup Of Your System. I cannot stress the importance of a good backup plan! CDs and DVDs, memory sticks and external USB hard drives are are all good medias to use for backing up. And once your backup plan good to go, use it regularly!

All computers will eventually retire someday. I hate to tell you this, but no matter how new or old your computer is, it will stop working one day. Your computer is a machine. But sadly, machines don’t last forever.

The files you store on your computer may be priceless and impossible to replace, in other words, you can never buy or find elsewhere. Think of all the financial data, addresses in your email address book, digital pictures, recipes, and so on. One day you will go to start that machine and it will not start! At that exact moment the key word will be BACKUP. Well, what are you doing to backup all of your computer data? Surprising, most people don’t have a backup plan. You’ll never know just how much you have until it’s gone! So if you don’t have a backup yet, better start planning on it.

In the retail industry, like in restaraunts and fast food chains, having a backup is gravely important. Why? Because there are so many data you will be needing for future references, like employee and customer information, products and services data of the restaurant, and so on. To be able to effectively track down sales and inventories, a reliable restaurant POS system must be used. And by maintainning your POS systems in good condition is the perfect way to protect it.

4. Let An Expert Do What They Do Best. If you need a computer service, seek out a trained, qualified technician. Your friends’ son may mean well when he offers to “fix” your problems, but many times the problems become worse. This will cost you a lot of time and money in the end. Remember, your computer system is the ‘core’ of your business. Trained, qualified technician’s are the experts in their field and has the necessary skills and resources to properly fix your problems in a timely, cost effective way.

Posted by: Saiful  :  Category: General

If your computer allows adware pop ups to appear as you browse the internet, they probably drive you insane. Dealing with the pop ups distracts you from your actual work and reduces your productivity. There are numerous ways to deal with these pop ups and it is usually are quite easy to get rid of them. Click here for more info: fix registry errors.

These problems can normally be dealt with yourself, an IT specialist is not required. They should be able to be eliminated by adjusting the options in the computer settings. If there is malicious adware software present, however, the problem is more difficult to rectify.

The privacy settings on the computer is the first place to look to find the built-in adware blocker. Go to Settings in the Start menu and select the control panel. You should see an icon for Internet Options. After you select this, you will see a tab at the top named, Privacy so click on it. What you need next, is to turn on the Pop Up Blocker by checking the appropriate tick box. The trouble from annoying adware will now be prevented, so long as there are no malicious adware programs present. It can also help to install the MSN and Google toolbars on your browser as these add a little extra security. More information can be found here: cleaner for registry.

The possibility that spyware is present on the computer makes things a little more complicated. After the settings have been set to block spyware, it should be eliminated. If not, there is probably a malicious program on the system. Spyware programs may show some signs, which you can use as clues. For example, has the home page on your browser been automatically changed?

Malicious software can be taken out using one of the many great removal applications out there. Some good ones are; Ad-Aware SE, IE-SPYAD, Spybot Search and Destroy, and HiJack. Windows has a remove programs capability, which you could try to use to find and take out spyware without a removal application. It is found in the Control Panel also. These issues will usually be able to be repaired with a little time yourself but the option of calling an IT technician is a last resort that would also work.
